BASCO, Batanes, Jan. 11 (PIA) - - The distribution of food assistance to all families in the province has resumed, the governor said.

Governor Marilou Cayco said with the project "Pamakan" of the provincial government, all Ivatan families are entitled to 25 kilograms of commercial rice, a kilo of meat, a kilo of monggo and a pack of milk.

Families in the barangays of Kayvaluganan, Kaychanarianan and San Joaquin received their share yesterday while the food assistance for residents of barangays Kayhuvokan, San Antonio and Chanarian-Tukon are expected to be distributed today.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the provincial officials have initiated the project Pamakan as an intervention to provide assistance to the people of Batanes while travel restrictions greatly affected the economy and livelihood of the Ivatans.

The project is based on the unique and time-honored Ivatan tradition of "kapamakan" or sharing of food/goods to families, relatives and friends.

As of press time, the province of Batanes only recorded three positive cases of COVID-19, who are locally stranded individuals and have already recovered from the virus. (MDCT/BME/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
