The Colorado Avalanche dealt for one of their former players as the NHL trade deadline draws near, acquiring defenseman Patrik Nemeth from the Detroit Red Wings on Friday.
The Avalanche announced the deal, in which they sent their fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft to the Red Wings.
Nemeth, a 6-foot-3 blueliner, played two seasons for Colorado from 2017-19, posted two goals and six assists in 39 games this season for Detroit. He ranked first among Red Wings defensemen this season in average ice time while short-handed (2:09).
Nemeth, 29, is in his eighth NHL season and owns seven goals and 49 assists in 353 career games. He enjoyed arguably his finest season in 2017-18 with Colorado, when he produced career highs in goals (three), assists (12) and plus/minus (plus-27).
Nemeth spent his first four seasons with the Dallas Stars (2013-17), who drafted him in the second round in 2010. After his two years with the Avalanche, he signed a free agent contract with the Red Wings prior to the 2019-20 campaign.
